Pownoll W. Phipps (Skladatel)
Colonel Pownoll Phipps was born in 1780 at Watton Cournt, near Totnes, Devon, England, the son of Constantine Phipps (1746-1797) and Elizabeth Tierney Phipps (d. 1832). He was a descendant of Colonel William Phipps, a yeoman of Lincolnshire whi raised a regiment of horse for King Charles, 1602, through his grandson, Captain James Phipps (1653-1695), who settled at St. Kitts, West Indies. His family lived at Caen, Normandy, France, 1788-1798, where the children were held due to the French revolution. Pownoll Phipps received at cadetship in the Bengal army of the East India Company in 1799 and left England for India. He married three times and was the father of eleven children. The family returned to England in 1823. He died in 1858
