Re-enactment of a Korean shamanic ceremony intended to cleanse a deceased soul and allow it to achieve nirvana. Singing, instrumental music, and dancing by a female shaman are major components of the ritual. The ritual, which usually lasts nine hours, is here abridged to an hour and 20 minutes, followed by a drum dance performed by Mr. Park, the leader of the group. The performance is preceded by a welcome speech by Rhoda Grauer, Director of Media, Performing Arts and Lectures at Asia Society, followed by a brief lecture by Theresa Ki-ja Kim on the details of the ritual and their significance.
