"Vamonos con Pancho Villa! is the final installment of Fernando de Fuentes' 'Revolutionary Trilogy, ' an unsentimental series about the Mexican civil war. The film tells of a group of rancheros who join Pancho Villa's army to fight for the revolution. One by one, the men are led to their death until a single, disillusioned survivor is left. The desertion of that final soldier paints Pancho Villa as a cowardly and apathetic leader and valorizes the unnamed soldier as the true hero of the revolution. The film's populist perspective on the 1910 Revolution was in keeping with the new administration of Lázaro Cárdenas. The film received funding from the state, which had begun to produce films as a means of promoting the nationalist social agendas of the new President's party, the National Revolutionary Party.
