The letters, written to New Mexico Territorial Governors/Superintendents of Indian Affairs William S. Messeroy, David Meriwether, W. W. H. Davis, Jason L. Collins,and S. M. Yost, concern Carson's work with bands of Apaches, Arapahoes, Comanches, Pueblos, and Utahs. Typescript copies of letters sent to Carson from George Manypenny to W. W. H. Davis regarding payments to Carson, and letters to Carson regarding Agency business from William W. Bent, Jason L. Collins, and A. B. Greenwood, are also included in the collection
