Problems in cytodiagnosis (female reproductive tract)

The purpose of this presentation is to describe and demonstrate cellular changes associated with pathological processes involving the uterus. This objective is achieved with photomicrographs of cellular samples which are commonly misinterpreted by cytotechnologists. In this presentation 37 cases are presented. In each case the patient's salient medical data is reviewed, the cellular sample is described and demonstrated, a cellular diagnosis is made, the follow-up is described and the pathological diagnosis is presented. These cases include cervicitis, lymphoma, plant cells, folic acid deficiency, dysplasia of the uterus, carcinoma in situ and dysplasia, squamous cell carcinoma of the uterus, irradiation effect, regenerating cells, primary and recurrent herpes genitalis, hyperplasia of the endocervix, adenocarcinoma of the uterus in situ, adenocarcinoma of the uterus, mixed adenosquamous carcinoma of the uterine cervix, normal endometrial cells, endometrial stromal cells, adenoomatous polyp of the endometrium, intramural leiomyoma of the uterus, adenocarcinoma in situ of the endometrium, adenocarcinoma of the endometrium, mixed adenosquamous carcinoma of the endometrium, extrauterine adenocarcinoma, cellular artifacts simulating adenocarcinoma, choriocarcinoma of the uterus, vaginal adenosis and clear cell leiomyoblastoma of the uterine cervix
