Views of former policeman and parole commissioner Samuel Battle taken primarily during the late 1930's and early 1940's. They include: half-length, studio portrait and portraits with family members; also, group portraits in uniform at various New York City events, which include shots of Battle with mayors William O'Dwyer, Fiorello La Guardia and fire chief Wesley Williams. These group portraits show Battle at award ceremonies, being sworn in, shaking hands; also on a stoop with African-American children.
