Incoming correspondence, 1848-1886
Series comprises assorted incoming correspondence, chiefly directed to superintendent Samuel G. Howe, but some to other officials of the school, including Alex McDonald, Edward Jarvis, matron Margaret McDonald, and subsequent superintendent Asbury Smith. Chiefly from the 1850s, letters include inquiries relating to placement at the school, prospective employment, school business, and dealings with governmental bodies. Some documents are numbered and probably were removed from bound letterbooks. Series also includes some drafts of outgoing correspondence, photocopies, and notecards with selected quotes from correspondence
