Susan C. Waters, itinerant painter
Susan Catherine Waters painted portraits of the inhabitants of the Southern Tier of New York State from 1843 to 1845. The artist was born in Binghamton, New York, on May 18, 1823 to Lark and Sally Moore. When she was a child the family moved to Friendsville, Pennsylvania, southwest of Binghamton, where her father was a cooper. Her interest in painting began as a young girl when she painted pictures for her natural history class to help pay school tuition for herself and her sister
