Collection of notebooks kept by Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens) with autograph notes, memos, appointments, addresses, etc., written in various locations around the world. Twain was known to have kept fifty notebooks during his lifetime. The earliest known notebook (no. 1, June-July 1855) is at Vassar College; Yale University holds two notebooks (nos. 15-16, July-October 1878) and the University of Texas holds one notebook (no. 32, May 1892-Jan. 1893). Includes one notebook by Olivia L. Clemens containing Mark Twain's 1871-1872 lecture itinerary, household planning lists and accounts, and expenditures from the family's European travels in 1878
