When my brothers come home : poems from central and southern Africa
The volume contains poems by fiftyone poets among them Mvula Ya Nangolo's (the Namibian poet and longstanding member of SWAPO) drawn from his earlier work: From Exile (1976) and one Liberation Movement, FRELIMO (Front for the Liberation of Mozambique. The poems are drawn from Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Themes dealt with include anticolonial struggles, racism, exploitation, and the postcolonial experience. As the editor says in the introduction, this collection of poems written between 1945 and 1982 deliberately emphasizes social commitment. (UNIN)
