The fateful voyage of the St. Jean Baptiste : a true account of M. de Surville's expedition to New Zealand & the unknown South Seas in the years 1769-70

In 1769, both British Captain James Cook in the ship Endeavour and French Jean de Surville in the ship St Jean Baptiste landed in New Zealand, but whereas the Endeavour was on a well planned voyage of discovery, the French ship had been blown off-course by a storm whilst searching for the fabulous South Seas Eldoras. The French crew stayed briefly with the Māoris of Doubtless Bay in the Far North of New Zealand, before sailing on to oblivion
