The Indiana companion to traditional Chinese literature

The second volume of The Indiana Companion to Traditional Chinese Literature is both a supplement and an update to the original volume. Volume II includes over 60 new entries on famous writers, works, and genres of traditional Chinese literature, followed by an extensive bibliographic update (1985-1997) of editions, translations, and studies (primarily in English, Chinese, Japanese, French, and German) for the 500+ entries of Volume I. These new entries are generally longer than those in the first volume and some contain translations of original poems to illustrate the style of the author or work in question. Volume II augments the basic background, analysis, and bibliography on the literature of China prior to 1911 which was provided by Volume I. The two-volume set gives scholars and beginning students alike a standard handbook for the study of traditional Chinese literature
