Springing from a widely varied group of small, pioneer enterprises, firmly rooted in the principles of traditional American enterprise, General Dynamics at present comprises eight American divisions and a Canadian subsidiary which in their variety touch at many points the life of both hemispheres. The history of General Dynamics thus becomes the history of a period, a people, and a place. More broadly still, its history spans the Industrial Revolution at full tide, and finds its meaning and its impetus in the parallel advance of science and invention over the last hundred years.
