The New York Yankees 1977 World Series. Game 2, Dodgers vs Yankees
The 1977 World Series matched the New York Yankees against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers, guided by first-year manager Tommy Lasorda, had upset the Reds in the NL West and bowled over the Phillies for the pennant. They had a talented pitching staff headed by Tommy John and a potent offense that featured Steve Garvey, Reggie Smith, Ron Cey, and Dusty Baker. The Yankees had Reggie Jackson, who made his 18th World Series game one of the most memorable in history, as the second player to smash three home runs in one Series game (following Babe Ruth, in 1926 and 1928). The Yankees won in six, to capture their first title since 1962 and their 21st overall. Once again, the month of October belonged to the Yankees, and to Reggie Jackson
