Marco Largi, ovvero, Carlo Magri : drammaturgo maltese : (1617-1693) : vita e opere

Born to a Maltese father and Italian mother, Carlo Magri (1617-1693) attended the Jesuit college in Valletta and was ordained in Rome where he obtained a doctorate in civil and canon law. Prominent in the Church and scholarly circles he was elected prelate to the Roman curia and appointed by Alexander VII the first prefect of the Biblioteca universitaria alessandrina. Among his works, the Latin translation of a theological dictionary written by his brother, Domenico, and two plays under the pseudonym Marco Largi--the first plays published in Italy by a Maltese author. Returning to Malta in 1683, Magri served as archpriest of the Chiesa Matrice in Gozo until his death. In addition to biographical and critical essays by Mario Pace, the book contains an appendix (pages 83-219) of Magri's works, including the plays: Regia è un sogno, ovvero, La Costanza, and Chi la dura la vince, ovvero, La Teodolinda
