London under attack : the report of the Greater London Area War Risk Study Commission
"London Under Attack: The Report of the Greater London Area War Risk Study Commission" is a comprehensive 397-page report published in 1986 by the Greater London Council. Commissioned in 1984, the study aimed to assess the potential impact of nuclear and conventional warfare on Greater London. Conducted by the Polytechnic of South Bank under the direction of an international commission, the research involved 44 expert authors producing 33 separate papers on topics such as emergency nursing services, nuclear blast effects, and food pollution. The findings were highly critical of government civil defense policies, highlighting the severe consequences of a nuclear attack and emphasizing that avoiding such a conflict remained the only viable means of preventing widespread devastation
