The art quilt

This is the first fully comprehensive book about the contemporary art quilt. In it, the authors thoroughly examine the events which led to the emergence of this new art form. They begin with the Arts and Crafts movement of the late nineteenth century, recounting, in fascinating detail, the events of the past century which have influenced the currently quilt revival. Their focus includes modern art, showing how it has affected today's quilt artist and how quilts, in turn, have influenced artists working in other media. Based upon their interpretations of these various influences, the authors chronicle the emergence of the contemporary art quilt and its creators. They analyze the similarities and differences between art quilts and traditional quilts, and they examine the techniques and styles of the participating sixteen quilt artists. The artists themselves talk about their work, and the authors discuss the current state of the art quilt, looking at its future in the quilt and modern art worlds. -- From publisher's description
