The shipment of frozen meat that left New Zealand's shores on February 15, 1882, has arguably shaped the country's future more than any other single event since. While it as not the first refrigerated shipment of meat from the Southern Hemisphere, by pure hard work, determination and attention to detail, it was easily the most successful of its day and was duly recognised at the time as a truly groundbreaking event.
