The Bible : the living word of revelation

"This book is intended for laymen and theologians alike. It will stimulate both to a fuller consideration of the claims of the Bible for itself, and it provides some fresh approaches to the fundamental questions about this source of authority in Christian faith. The contributors to this symposium present in positive and relevant fashion their reflections on the subject of the revealed Word of God. In an age of relativism and skepticism, they confidently declare their faith in the divine origin and authority of the Holy Scriptures as the Word of God to men, revealed to and through His prophets and apostles. While the ten contributors represent different church affiliations, and for the most part a different field of scholarship, and while probably no two would accord exactly in all respects in theological or ecclesiastical beliefs, nevertheless they do agree that the written Word must be the accepted basis for their faith, however they might differ in its detailed interpretation. Certainty without presumptuousness, clarity without naivete, and scholarship without pedantry characterize these essays. While the writers speak in modern terms they present historic truths in context. Among the essays included are: The Meaning of the Word by Merrill C. Tennet, The Necessity of the Revealed Word by James I. Packer, The Communication of Revelation by Kenneth S. Kantzer, The Problem of Communication by R. Laird Harris, Are the Scriptures Inerrant? by Edward J. Young, The Inspiration of the Old Testament by Martin Woudstra, The Inspiration of the New Testament by Clark H. Pinnock, The Message of the Word by John H. Gerstner, The Pragmatic Confirmation of Scripture by John F. Walvoord, The Relevance of Scripture Today by John Warwick Montgomery. Here is a vibrant defense of the faith delivered by Evangelical leaders within the context of theological dialogue today." Publisher
