Joseph Hooker immigrated during or before 1689 from the south of England or the Isle of Jersey to Wenham, Massachusetts. Joseph Hooker (1814-1879), direct descendant in the fifth generation, was born in Hadley, Massachusetts, and became a general in the U.S. Army during the Civil War (he was known as "fighting Joe Hooker"). Descendants and relatives lived in New England, New York, Ohio, Illinois and elsewhere
