Operation Stabilise: U.S. Joint Force Operations in East Timor
US support to the Australian-Led Operation Stablise in East Timor demonstrated a willingness to play a very new and unfamiliar role in regional issues. The experience of serving in a strictly supporting role in a coalition presents new options for the US Armed Forces, but it also challenges Joint Doctrine that only considered the leading role of Coalition and Joint Force Operations.
