Marek Edelman : życie, po prostu

A chronological biography of Edelman (1919?-2009), a leader of the Bund and a founder of the Jewish Fighting Organization in the Warsaw ghetto. Pp. 39-216 (covering the period September 1939 - December 1944) describe his experiences during the Holocaust, including the German occupation, life in the ghetto, and resistance activities of the Bund. Notes that the Bund disseminated information about the Final Solution in early 1942, but the Jews in the ghetto refused to believe it. He, along with Mordechaj Anielewicz and others, established the Jewish Fighting Organization in October 1942, and staged the first rebellion in January 1943. During the uprising in April, Edelman served as a commander, and afterward he led a group through the sewers to the "Aryan side", where he and some others survived posing as non-Jews. After the war he remained in Poland, became a heart surgeon, and was active in the Solidarity movement.
