"To create Precious Memories -- a tribute to the music and legendary talents of Chicago's 47th Street during its golden age -- a WTTW crew began by interviewing the surviving members of Chicago's black community involved in the birth of Chicago blues and jazz nearly half a century ago. Everyone from musicians to patrons to barkeeps offers personal anecdotes and fond remembrances of Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, and a score of others. WTTW preserves the memories of those who were there, and re-creates a famous nightclub of the day to make the music that made history."--1988 Peabody Awards entry form excerpt. The program includes performances by members of the Kuumba Theatre Company performing Chicago blues and jazz music in a re-created 47th Street nightclub
