In July 2006, after seeing Beth Lipman's 20 foot long glass tableau Bancketje on exhibit at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, RISD Museum Director Hope Alswang and curator Judith Tannenbaum invited Lipman to visit the RISD Museum galleries as well as the collections in storage in order to create an exhibition inspired by the collection. Lipman visited in October, 2007 and returned in March 2008 to work with students in RISD's Glass Department to create several topiary sculptures and parts of the full size setee. The bulk of the work was created at her home base in Wisconsin
