The personal diary of Mrs Harriet Arbuthnot, early nineteenth-century diarist, social observer and political hostess in Tory party politics. The diary is an insight into her life between the years 1820-1832. It covers her relationship with Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington (of whom she was described as being the 'closest female friend' of), with much of their correspondence and association detailed. It also covers her close friendship with Lord Castlereagh, and her grief at his death; as well as her views on many contemporary Tory political figures of the age
