Perrault's adaptation of the Duployé shorthand alphabet and letter groups to the Algonquin spoken by North American Indians in the Hudson Bay area, and in the trading posts of Moose Factory, St. Maurice, Albany, Waswanipi, and Mékiskan. Each of the three leaves, dated May 15, 1889, contains Duployé shorthand forms of common syllabic groups of Algonquin, formulated by Denis Romulus Perrault of Montréal, Canadian representative to the Institut Sténographique des Deux Mondes in Paris. The shorthand interpretations of Algonquin have been approved by Father Jean Pierre Gueguen
