[Legislative biographical file]
File contains biographical information about members of the Massachusetts General Court and its predecessors, Massachusetts constitutional officers, and members of Massachusetts constitutional conventions from the colonial period to date. Also included are citations to references about legislators found in various biographical volumes of the period, notations of location of obituaries, etc. File is based on information compiled by State Librarian Caleb Tillinghast and is maintained and updated by State Library staff. Library also owns the letters sent and received by Mr. Tillinghast in compiling the original index; each letter is noted on the appropriate file card. The original Tillinghast card file is preserved in Library's Special Collections Dept
