Studies in Christian existentialism
More than any other modern philosophical movement, existentialism has had a profound effect on the course of contemporary theology. Bultmann, Tillich, and Barth have worked out their theological positions in response to, or in dialogue with, existential philosophy. As its title implies, this book is a collection of essays organized around a single theme. One of the foremost examines the foundations and implications of this important movement. In developing the existential approach to theology, the author examines most of the major contemporary themes--demythologizing, the problem of the historical Jesus, the challenge of logical positivism--as they are stated by such modern philosophers and theologians as Heidegger, Sartre, Bultmann, A.J. Ayer, Teilhard de Chardin, and Karl Rahner. -Publisher
