Emotions in the practice of psychotherapy : clinical implications of affect theories
Annotation Plutchik (emeritus, psychiatry and psychology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva U.), also the author of Circumplex models of personality and emotions, turns to the relevance of affect theory to emotional disorders and their treatment. He focuses on personality disorders because they can be considered extreme derivatives of personality traits, which in turn are derived from emotions. Two central issues he describes are the tactics therapists use to uncover emotions and the complex problems of therapeutic communication. He includes a discussion of tests and scales used to measure emotions and related concepts. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
