National competition policy : some impacts on society and the economy
The National Competition Council has developed this paper in the context of its role in promoting community understanding and informed debate on National Competition Policy (NCP). The paper seeks to addres some of the recent concerns which have been raised with regard to NCP implementation and clarify some misconceptions. The material in the paper was originally developed in response to two major inquiries launched in 1998 into NCP: the Productivity Commission inquiry into the impacts of NCP on rural Australia, and the Senate inquiry into the socio-economic consequences of NCP reform
