No cure for the future : disease and medicine in science fiction and fantasy
Writers and critics of science fiction bring to light the surprisingly few references to the medical industry in the genre. Some look at general themes, such as the missionary physician and how doctors struggle to survive in science fiction. Others cite cases, among them Maupassant's Horla, Heart of Darkness, doctors and the battle between individualism and conformity during the 1950s, and theology and technology during the era of the Military-Industrial-Medical-Entertainment Complex.
