Bearing false witness? : an introduction to the Christian countercult
Cowan (religious studies and sociology, U. of Missouri-Kansas City) defines the Christian countercult movement as that branch of evangelical Protestantism most concerned about the growth of religious pluralism and the advent of new and often controversial religious movements, which invariably threaten the sense of ontological uniqueness that has marked Christianity since its rise to dominance. He discusses exponents ranging from extremists to erudite apologists, finding that the movement pivots on the poles of maintaining the evangelical worldview and converting anyone who follows a different path.
