People and plants in ancient eastern North America
Following a historical overview of the field, Minnis (anthropology, U. of Oklahoma) introduces seven contributed chapters on North American and Caribbean paleoethnobotany. "Eastern" is broadly defined to include the US Great Plains. Scientists apply micro- and macro-botanical evidence from woodland sites in analyzing prehistoric plant use, the evolution of crop-based economies, and regional ecological issues.
