Wielding the dagger : the MarineKorps Flandern and the German war effort, 1914-1918
As the war with Britain began in 1914, Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz, head of the German Naval Office, recognized the strategic advantages of controlling the Flanders coastline. This study focuses on the MarineKorps Flandern, created by von Tirpitz to carry out that objective. It traces the unit's story, examining its purpose, career, and final demise in the general collapse of 1918. Karau teaches history at the U. of Wisconsin colleges.
