Visionary drawings of architecture and planning : 20th century through the 1960s : developed for travel and circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES)
George R. Collins (Compiler, Writer of introduction), Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, Drawing Center (New York, N.Y.)
This is the catalog for a 1979 exhibition at New York's Drawing Center developed for travel and circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES). It presents a wide range of illustrations notable for their style and subject-personal glimpses of theory, speculation, and fantasy of what should or might be the future of our built environment. Collins has written an introduction which defines visionary architecture and which comments on the historical position of those represented in the exhibit. Thirty-eight designers are represented by a brief biography followed by a few annotated examples of the individual's work. The exhibition--a striking example of internationalism--is reduced by the catalog to a hurried look at individuals and their creativity which should, however, encourage readers into further exploration of this field
