The Antiquity of Dairying in Asia and Africa
The evidence of earliest dairying in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Sahara is examined. The conclusion reached is that convincing evidence of dairying in Egypt (ca. 3100 B.C.) is as early as or a bit earlier than that for Mesopotamia, and that evidence for the Sahara (ca. 4000-3000 B.C.) is earlier still. One should therefore resist the temptation to ascribe the origin of dairying to Mesopotamia, as is so commonly done by scholars
