Gate of sweet nectar : feeding hungry spirits in an American Zen community
Features an adaptation of the traditional Soto Zen rite for feeding hungry ghosts (Kanromon) as celebrated at the Zen Center of Los Angeles. Incorporating elements from other traditions such as Jewish liturgy and Theraveda Buddhist loving-kindness (metta) meditation, it expresses an evolving social vision in American Zen. It is an example of the transmission, translation, and transformation of Buddhism in an American social and religious setting
