Dudley Farm : a history of Florida farm life

John B. Pickard (Author), Sally Morrison (Contributor), Matheson Museum, Inc (Publisher)
"Established before the Civil War, Dudley Farm was a pioneer farm that thrived through three generations of Dudley owners. Now an Historic State Park, it stands as a rare example of an early Florida farm, one that remains essentially intact and still capable of functioning as a farm. The Dudley Farm complex includes eighteen buildings and other structures, mainly built from the 1880s to the 1940s, along with 256 acres of croplands, fields, and woods. As such, the farm is an authentic historic place whose rural vernacular structures preserve an important segment of our cultural and architectural history. With the individual American family farm and its way of life fast disappearing from the rural landscape, Dudley Farm offers visitors a chance to experience what it was like to work on and produce sustenance from the land. In essence this farm functions as a living laboratory where Floridians can step back in time."--Page xi
