Let's all go down to Tiedtke's

Before there were franchises of chain stores in every town, before there were enormous superstores, there was the kind of department store where they knew their customers and where the customers enjoyed shopping. In Toledo, it was Tiedtke's. There were many downtown department stores in Toledo in the '40s, '50s and '60s, but Tiedtke's was the community's center. It wasn't a sophisticated place, but it had heated sidewalks in front. It wasn't a huge place but at Christmas time it had elaborate train sets running all day. It wasn't a grocery store but everyone who ever went there remembers Parkwood Coffee and Christmas cheese. In this local history documentary, the people who worked at Tiedtke's and the people who shopped there remember a unique part of Toledo's history
