Seedfall and establishment of Engelmann spruce and subalpine fir in clearcut openings in Colorado
"Measurements of 10 years of seed production and dispersal into clearcut openings of various sizes on five National Forests in Colorado, and 14 years of seedling survival, indicate that seed availability generally did not limit regeneration success. Seedbed conditions and other environmental factors controlled regeneration success. Stocking appeared dependent upon size of openings, which should not exceed 8 chains in width. Seedlings surviviing to 4 years of age have a good chance of establishment."
