Doctor Gritman's hospital : from horse and buggy to helipad

This is a history of Gritman Hospital in Moscow, Idaho (later called Gritman Memorial Hospital and now called Gritman Medical Center) and its metamorphosis into the major health care facility in the Palouse region and Moscow's largest private employer. The history focuses on two physicians in particular: Dr. Charles Lee Gritman and Dr. Robert Calvin Coffey who later was a member of the faculty at University of Oregon Medical School in Portland. Other people who are noted in the history are Henry McGregor who built the McGregor House in the late 1880s which became the Gritman Hospital in the 1890s when Gritman and Coffey purchased it; Bertie Cox Gritman; Dr. Clifford Oakley Armstrong; Dr. John Ayers; and Pauline Pearl Machlied, a registered nurse
