A role for Oxytocin in normal human prostate cell proliferation and steroid metabolism : a model for benign prostatic Hyperplasia : a thesis submitted in fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand

In the studies in this thesis normal human prostate stromal and epithelial cells were grown in isolation and in co-culture with basal levels of testosterone (10nmol/L) and increasing doses (0.1, 1.0, 10.0 nmol/L) of either oxytocin, oxytocin antagonist or oxytocin and oxytocin antagonist. The results obtained have identified a role for oxytocin in prostate stromal cell proliferation and steroid metabolism
