Pete McCloskey : Leading from the front
Academy Award winner Paul Newman narrates this one-hour documentary about his colorful and controversial old friend. "Pete" McCloskey was a war hero as a Marine during the Korean War. He was one of the nation's first environmental lawyers and co-founder of the first Earth Day. He represented California's 11th District in Congress from 1967 to 1983. He ran against Richard Nixon for the Republican presidential nomination in 1972 in an attempt to end the Vietnam War. In 2006, he came out of retirement to protest the corruption and anti-conservation policies of his party. McCloskey's story offers multiple examples of authentic heroism over a fifty-year career. It's about a man who dedicates his life to public service and follows his moral compass regardless of the prevailing political winds
