Through the eyes of a master : Nakunte Diarra's bogolanfini

Nakunte, a master bogolanfini artist describes the traditional art form she learned from her grandmother and mother. Explains that the cloth is first dyed with a mordant made from boiled leaf solutions (four different kinds) and a bark solution that dyes the cloth a rust brown, then paints the cloth with a mud solution (hence the name mudcloth) made from iron-rich clay. The process is demanding both in time and physical labor
