A molecular comparison of actin genes in sea urchins (strongylocentrotus franciscanus, s. purpuratus, and lytechinus pictus)

The chromosomal arrangement, genomic copy number, intron positions and nucleotide sequence of actin genes within the three sea urchin species, Stronglyocentrotus franciscanus, S. purpuratus and Lytechinus pictus, have been examined. The chromosomal arrangement of actin genes was found to vary significantly among these species, in that the genes are more highly clustered in S. franciscanus. This difference in arrangement is not accompanied by a change in the actin gene copy number, as all three species
