Racial disparity in diabetic end-stage renal disease: trends in incidence, survival and possible explanatory factors
Incidence of diabetic end-stage renal disease (DM-ESRD) in the general population reportedly is greater in blacks (Bs) than in whites (Ws). Greater B diabetes (DM) prevalence, however, may explain excess B DM-ESRD incidence. If excess B DM-ESRD incidence is real, higher risk in Bs may be due to their greater hypertension prevalence interacting with DM.
