WHO classification of tumours of the digestive system

The World Health Organization's series on the histological and genetic typing of human tumors, of which this is the third volume, is being revised for a fourth edition. Over 100 scientists from 22 countries worked on the revision, which was adopted by an Editorial and Consensus Conference at the Agency in Lyon in December 2009. In addition to standardized classifications that help researchers and clinicians understand each other, diagnostic algorithms are provided in many cases. After a review of diagnostic terms, the chapters cover tumors of the oesophagus, oesophago-gastric junction, stomach, ampullary region, small intestine, appendix, colon and rectum, the anal canal, liver and intra-hepatic bile ducts, gallbladder and extra-hepatic bile ducts, and pancreas.
