Pennsylvania patriot : General William Montgomery
Biography of William Montgomery, born in Londonderry Township, Chester County, Pa., August 8, 1736. Montgomery served in the Revolutionary War as colonel of the Fourth Battalion of Chester County Militia. Active in public affairs, he served as both a state and federal legislator, held a number of judicial appointments, and served as major general of Pennsylvania Militia from 1793 to 1807. An entrepreneur and land developer, he founded Danville, Montour County, Pa. and served as its first postmaster. Montgomery died in Danville on May 1, 1816
