Ungulate taxonomy

Groves (biological anthropology, Australian National U.) and English zoologist Grubb (1942-2006), widely recognized as the world's leading ungulate taxonomist, show relationships between species of even-toed and odd-toed mammals with hooves, leaving out some of the more dubious groups often included for technical reasons, such as elephants and whales. The previous such reference is now a century old, they say, and the molecular revolution by itself has significantly changed views on relations between species enough to warrant a new treatment. Each article includes Latin and common names, year identified as a species, relationships to other taxa, and distinguishing physical and molecular features.
