The independence of Western Samoa - some conceptual issues
The events leading to Western Samoa's independence are examined from an international law perspective. The Treaty of Friendship was signed in 1962 between New Zealand and Western Samoa. Western Samoa has also joined the United Nations. The rights of citizenship for the Western Samoans, in relation to their independence, and the difficulties of implementing an immigration policy between Western Samoa and New Zealand are discussed. Western Samoa was accepted as a member of the Commonwealth in 1970
